Founded on March 9, 1856 at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Sigma Alpha Epsilon is the only fraternity founded in the Antebellum South and the first Southern Fraternity still in existence. With over 282,000 initiated brothers—more than any other social fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has expanded vastly since its humble yet glorious beginnings in Tuscaloosa. Proud of our heritage and lasting traditions, the Georgia Phi chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was chartered on March 8, 1890 making it the second fraternity to be chartered at what was then known as the “Georgia School of Technology”. Since Georgia Phi's founding in the first year of the school's existence, Georgia Phi has produced some of the greatest leaders in the area including Atlanta Mayor, Ivan Allen Jr. and one of golf's greatest legends, Bobby Jones. In Atlanta, the Atlanta Area Alumni Association is composed of 4,200 ΣΑΕ alumni from chapters throughout the country and some of the most successful businessmen, lawyers, doctors, and other professionals in the area. This association has won numerous awards including best alumni association in the country and constantly offers its support to the Georgia Phi chapter of ΣΑΕ, as does the elite group of Georgia Tech alumni that belong to ΣΑΕ. This demonstrates one of ΣΑΕ's guiding principles—when you're an ΣΑΕ, you're an ΣΑΕ for life.
Joining Georgia Tech's chapter of ΣΑΕ gives one a network of students that are socially proactive and established leaders. Coming to any college will require a significant adjustment, but coming to one with the academic demands of Georgia Tech can be quite a shock. Our members know how to be successful in the rigorous academic environment of Georgia Tech as well as cope with the stress with lasting friendships and social networks. Joining this fraternity will provide a support group for your academic pursuits.
As mentioned above, ΣΑΕ has historically had one of the most active social calendars on campus; for three straight semesters, ΣΑΕ has been accepted to mix with every sorority they asked which included five Georgia Tech Sororities. In the past year, ΣΑΕ has also hosted popular artists like Whisky Falls and hit country band Cole Deggs and the Lonesome. In fact, our social reputation is so strong that sunglasses manufacturer
Costa
del Mar selected ΣΑΕ among all Georgia Tech fraternities to host a huge concert and two-day party as part of their U-of-Blue national tour. ΣΑΕ hosted over 1,400 people during the concert, which featured Sony recording artists and was hosted by ESPN's Cindy Garrison. Coming to college is a wonderful time to meet new people and to experience new things. Georgia Phi of ΣΑΕ provides an atmosphere built on friendship and respect, that all can enjoy while building lifelong relationships.
ΣΑΕ aims to continue to have one of the most robust social schedules on campus with many band parties, date nights, swaps/mixers, and a semi-formal scheduled for the Fall semester of 2008. However, ΣΑΕ is about much more than the parties. Every day the ΣΑΕ house is buzzing with Brothers, Pledges, Alumni, and guests. Off-campus trips to the golf course, fishing trips, and trips down the Chattahoochee river are daily occurrences. True connections are made between everyone that comes around the ΣΑΕ house and these connections are lifelong. Weather you're bonding with your best friends that will be at your wedding in 10 years or an Alumni that will write you a recommendation for graduate school or a job after graduation, true connections are more valuable than anything one learns in school.
Above all else, our chapter is built upon our creed, The True Gentleman, and our reputation on campus reflects our honest, gentlemanly behavior towards others.
The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good
will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all
emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the
obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who
is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not
flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or
achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy;
whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others,
rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor
is sacred and virtue safe.

If you are interested and want to learn more about how you can become a True Gentleman, click on the link to the left of the page and tell us about yourself. We have an extremely busy rush schedule this summer that we will be in contact with any interested entering freshmen about. I look forward to meeting you and hopefully bonding with you like only brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon can.
